LixelStudio and LCC Studio questions, answered.
Condensed from the LixelStudio 4.0.1.6 and LCC Studio 2.4.0 manuals (September 2026). LixelStudio handles engineering point clouds; LCC Studio handles 3D Gaussian Splatting.
Licences and activation
How many LixelStudio licences do I get?
Three permanent PC codes per scanner, requested at xgrids.com/activationrequest (or from LixelGO after activation). Basic features work without activation; the code unlocks the full toolset. A licence can be migrated to a new PC (Migrate Out generates a new code) and PCs without internet can be activated with a request code and licence file via AECT.

What is the difference between LCC Free and Premium?
Free: sign in and reconstruct single scenes, view, navigate, record and share. Premium adds Map Fusion, Aerial Reconstruction, Aerial-Ground Fusion, HD Enhancement, Intelligent Spatial Recognition (floor plans / BIM) and export to .lcc, .lcc2, .ply, .usd and 3D Tiles. Premium is an account authorisation code from AECT.

Is there a fully offline LCC?
Yes — the offline permanent edition runs on a CodeMeter hardware dongle supplied by XGRIDS through AECT. The standard online edition needs internet only when you sign in, create a model, start a reconstruction or generate developer data; the reconstruction itself runs locally.

Processing and formats
What does LixelStudio import and export?
Imports .las, .laz, .ply, .e57, .txt and .csv point clouds. Exports point clouds, meshes (.ply, .obj, .osgb), 2D drawings (.dxf) and .lcc. Tick “Output Panoramic Photos” during processing if you want colouring or meshing.

What does LCC Studio export?
.lcc, .lcc2 (SOG/SPZ — much smaller), .ply, .usd (with geospatial coordinates since 2.4.0) and 3D Tiles for Cesium / ArcGIS. RTK captures carry WGS84 or CGCS2000 coordinates inside the .lcc and point_cloud.ply; the Measure Point tool shows the EPSG code.

Can LCC turn my scene into an OBJ mesh?
No. Gaussian splats are not meshes. Use LixelStudio on a LiDAR scan for meshes, and the LCC scene for photoreal visualisation.

What is Creator / developer data?
LCC Studio (2.3.0+) can output developer_data with COLMAP-format intrinsics and extrinsics aligned to the optimised point cloud, both for the raw fisheye images and undistorted perspective images — for your own 3DGS / NeRF pipelines. The online edition needs internet while generating it.

Video reconstruction limits?
mp4 / mov / webm (H.264), 720p or better, up to 16 minutes, 0.5–1 m/s movement; choose 4 fps extraction for short clips. Avoid zooming and pure rotation.

Capture rules that LCC depends on
Minimum and maximum capture length?
K series and L2 Pro: at least 1 minute, not more than 30 minutes per map. Older L1/L2 with external camera: 3–30 minutes. Start moving as soon as initialisation completes; the trajectory must move at least 1 m.
Source: LCC Studio 2.4.0 · FAQ 1
Speed, angles and distance?
Under 1 m/s (0.5 m/s indoors, corners and doorways; PortalCam 0.5 / 0.3), pitch between −60° and +60°, at least 0.5 m from objects, serpentine paths with loop closures within ±40° line of sight, and an overlap at least every 500 m on K2 captures.

Why does Aerial-Ground Fusion need RTK?
Aerial photos must carry centimetre positions so they align with the ground trajectory; without RTK the fusion layers or distorts. HD Enhancement does not need RTK because it works on relative feature matching.
Source: LCC Studio 2.4.0 · FAQ 9, 30
HD Enhancement checklist?
20–500 images per session (1,000 with control points), at least 20 per enhancement point, one lens and resolution, no zoom or cropping, 80% overlap, even exposure, static subject, resolution above 1024 × 768, about 100° horizontal field of view works best.

Errors and fixes
Reconstruction stays “Queued”.
The LCC data drive is full. Free space or move the project path, then recreate the project.
Source: LCC Studio 2.4.0 · FAQ 17
“HBC / XBC / Xbin corrupted”.
The raw package copied incompletely, or the scanner lost power mid-capture. Re-copy from the device; if the device shows a data-validity warning, re-capture.
Source: LCC Studio 2.4.0 · FAQ 26
“GPU driver not installed”.
NVIDIA only; update to driver 581.90 or later, add nvidia-smi to the PATH if it still complains, and run LCC Studio as administrator.
Source: LCC Studio 2.4.0 · FAQ 37
“LCC reconstruction data not found” when opening a model.
Models built before 1.8.0 must be regenerated, or the storage path in Settings has changed — switch it back, or open the exported result in the Scene Editor.
Source: LCC Studio 2.4.0 · FAQ 21
Where is the capture trajectory?
Reconstruct with 1.5.1 or later and enable “Capture Trajectory” in Settings. PLY imports do not show trajectories.

Unreal plugin: free or Pro?
LCC4Unreal 3.3.1 loads and renders every format for free. A Pro App Key (XGRIDS developer platform) adds ProxyMesh normal mode, working-colour-space conversion and 65,536 clipping volumes / section planes instead of 50. Unlicensed features fall back silently, so check the licence before packaging.

AECT support in Australia
Who do I contact for support, warranty or repairs?
AECT Solutions is the XGRIDS National Distributor for Australia. Email info@aect.solutions with your serial number and a short description (photos or a screen recording help), or book an onboarding call from this hub. We handle warranty assessment and any return-to-factory logistics with XGRIDS on your behalf, and keep loan units for eligible warranty cases where stock allows.
What does the warranty cover?
XGRIDS scanners carry a 12-month limited manufacturer warranty against defects. Physical damage, water ingress beyond the IP rating, and battery damage caused by not following the storage rules (recharge after use, top up idle packs every 3 months, rescue flat packs within 3 days) are excluded by XGRIDS. Extended-warranty options are available through AECT — ask us before your first year ends.
Can I hire a XGRIDS scanner or try before I buy?
Yes. AECT runs the largest XGRIDS hire and demo fleet in Australia — book online at aect.solutions/rent. Demo-to-Buy hire fees are credited 100% toward a purchase of the same product.
What training is included, and what can I add?
Every purchase includes remote onboarding (Tier 0) — this hub, a 1-on-1 call and email support. Professional on-site training runs on your own site and your own job (Tier 2), and the 3DGS Masterclass program covers the full capture-to-delivery workflow. Book through the training page or ask your AECT contact.
Can AECT process my data for me?
Yes. Send us the raw project folder (or a drive) and we return classified point clouds, meshes, floor plans or 3DGS scenes — processed in Australia on AECT hardware. Get an instant estimate at aect.solutions/services/data-processing.
Where is my data stored?
Nothing leaves your machine unless you choose to upload. LixelStudio runs fully offline; LCC Studio processes locally (the online edition only checks your licence when you create or start a model); LCC Cloud publishing is optional. For air-gapped sites XGRIDS offers an offline LCC edition on a hardware dongle — ask AECT.
Answers are condensed from the official XGRIDS user manuals (docs.xgrids.com, mirrored 11 Sep 2026) and AECT support practice. The manual is authoritative where they differ; specifications change with firmware and software releases.
