XGRIDS Lixel K1 questions, answered.
Condensed from the XGRIDS Lixel K1 user manual (v2.4.0). The K1 shares the K2 scanning routine; the differences are the external RTK module, the fixed memory card and the sequential firmware path.
Basics
What are the key K1 numbers?
Under 1 kg, 48 MP × 2 panoramic cameras, 360° LiDAR at 200,000 points/s, 0.1–40 m range at 10% reflectivity (70 m at 80%), IP54, −20 °C to 50 °C, about 90 minutes per battery, 256 GB internal storage.

Can I swap the memory card?
No. The K1 card is not user-replaceable. Copy projects off after each job (USB transfer up to 75 MB/s).

How is the K1 different from the K2?
The K2 adds a front-facing camera (better, more even colour and better 3DGS), a built-in RTK module and 512 GB storage. The K1 uses an external RTK module and is the value choice for indoor, underground and training work.

Scanning technique
What is the correct routine?
Start on a flat surface facing a feature-rich area, wait at least 10 s after the point cloud appears (until the app says initialisation succeeded), then pick up slowly. Walk normally, tilt about 15° forward (no more than 20°), stay 0.5 m off surfaces, avoid dynamic objects, open all doors first and pause briefly in doorways.

How long for good colour?
At least 2 minutes of continuous movement; don’t block the panoramic camera.

Can I export video from the cameras?
No. Tick “Output Panoramic Photos” in LixelStudio project processing to get stills (needed for colouring and meshing).

RTK, NTRIP and georeferencing in Australia
Which NTRIP / CORS network should I use?
Any standard NTRIP caster works with the K1. Free option: Geoscience Australia’s AusCORS service (register for an account). Commercial networks (for example AllDayRTK, HxGN SmartNet, and state services such as CORSnet-NSW) give denser coverage and support — check coverage for your area. Enter host, port, mountpoint, username and password under RTK Settings → Custom in LixelGO. Your phone needs mobile data for the whole scan.
What coordinate system will my point cloud be in?
The scanner records the frame your caster delivers (XGRIDS lists WGS84, CGCS2000 and ITRF2008; Australian networks stream GDA2020-based corrections) with geodetic heights. Convert to your project datum and MGA zone during LixelStudio processing (coordinate transformation step). AECT sets this up with you during onboarding — ask if you need AHD heights.
Do I need RTK for every scan?
No. RTK (or control points) is only needed when you must deliver absolute coordinates or verify accuracy. Relative measurements, BIM verification and visualisation work without it.

What are the minimum RTK conditions for a usable georeferenced scan?
Outdoors with a fixed solution before you start (module LED green, app shows Fixed). Scan area larger than 10 m, more than 20 valid RTK points (over 100 for good results), keep any continuous unfixed stretch under 50 m, keep the unit within 15° of vertical, and for accuracy verification the route must be at least 100 m long and not a straight line.

RTK or PPK?
RTK needs a live correction stream during the scan and gives you absolute coordinates immediately. PPK records raw satellite data and is corrected in LixelStudio afterwards — use it where there is no mobile coverage or on air-gapped sites. Select the mode on the scan start page before you begin.

The RTK or NTRIP light in the app is red — what now?
Both red: the RTK module is not connected — power off, reseat the module, restart. RTK red / NTRIP green: same fix (quick-connect mode). RTK green / NTRIP red: the caster is not reachable — check the phone’s internet and your caster login. Both green but 0 satellites: hardware fault — cross-test with another module and contact AECT.

K1-specific RTK notes
Which RTK settings do I change?
None — leave the RTK advanced settings at their default (off). Fit the module, connect your caster in LixelGO and wait for a fixed solution.

Does the tilted RTK bracket need anything?
Firmware 1.2.3 or later. If you don’t have the latest bracket, ask AECT.

What do the GNSS status codes mean?
0 invalid (red), 1 single (blue), 4 fixed (green), 5 float (blue). Only a fixed solution should be used for absolute accuracy.

Care, battery and firmware
How should I look after the batteries?
Charge fully after each day of use (a few hours on the supplied charger). A fully charged pack that sits idle must be topped up at least every 3 months, and a flat pack recharged within 3 days. Packs are rated for 300–500 cycles before capacity drops to 70–80%. Damage from ignoring these rules is not covered by warranty.

What temperatures and weather can the scanner handle?
Operate between −20 °C and 50 °C (PortalCam: to 45 °C, out of direct sun). IP54 means dust-protected and splash-resistant only — do not scan in heavy rain, standing water or heavy dust. The unit shuts itself down if it overheats; let it cool before restarting and never block the vents.
How do I clean the LiDAR window and lenses?
Use the supplied lint-free cloth and wipe gently in one direction. Never touch the LiDAR or lens surfaces with your fingers. Check for fogging when moving between hot and cold environments — fogged optics ruin colourisation.
How do I update the firmware?
Battery above 70%. Download the package from xgrids.com/intl/support/download, do not unzip or rename it, switch the scanner to USB mode, copy the file to the root of the drive (next to the model folder, not inside it), eject, then power off and on. Alternating red/green means it is upgrading — do not remove the battery. Confirm the new version in the app afterwards.

Why must K1 firmware be updated step by step?
Versions below 1.2.4 must go 1.2.4 → 2.4.1 → 3.0.2 → 3.1.1 → 3.2.1 … in order; skipping versions fails silently (no red/green flashing, version unchanged). Send AECT your current version and serial if unsure.

AECT support in Australia
Who do I contact for support, warranty or repairs?
AECT Solutions is the XGRIDS National Distributor for Australia. Email info@aect.solutions with your serial number and a short description (photos or a screen recording help), or book an onboarding call from this hub. We handle warranty assessment and any return-to-factory logistics with XGRIDS on your behalf, and keep loan units for eligible warranty cases where stock allows.
What does the warranty cover?
XGRIDS scanners carry a 12-month limited manufacturer warranty against defects. Physical damage, water ingress beyond the IP rating, and battery damage caused by not following the storage rules (recharge after use, top up idle packs every 3 months, rescue flat packs within 3 days) are excluded by XGRIDS. Extended-warranty options are available through AECT — ask us before your first year ends.
Can I hire a Lixel K1 or try before I buy?
Yes. AECT runs the largest XGRIDS hire and demo fleet in Australia — book online at aect.solutions/rent. Demo-to-Buy hire fees are credited 100% toward a purchase of the same product.
What training is included, and what can I add?
Every purchase includes remote onboarding (Tier 0) — this hub, a 1-on-1 call and email support. Professional on-site training runs on your own site and your own job (Tier 2), and the 3DGS Masterclass program covers the full capture-to-delivery workflow. Book through the training page or ask your AECT contact.
Can AECT process my data for me?
Yes. Send us the raw project folder (or a drive) and we return classified point clouds, meshes, floor plans or 3DGS scenes — processed in Australia on AECT hardware. Get an instant estimate at aect.solutions/services/data-processing.
Where is my data stored?
Nothing leaves your machine unless you choose to upload. LixelStudio runs fully offline; LCC Studio processes locally (the online edition only checks your licence when you create or start a model); LCC Cloud publishing is optional. For air-gapped sites XGRIDS offers an offline LCC edition on a hardware dongle — ask AECT.
Answers are condensed from the official XGRIDS user manuals (docs.xgrids.com, mirrored 11 Sep 2026) and AECT support practice. The manual is authoritative where they differ; specifications change with firmware and software releases.
