Register your details and serial number(s) so we can put your warranty on record and tailor your support. Takes 60 seconds.

By registering you agree to allow AECT Solutions to store and process this information to manage your onboarding, warranty and support.

Unbox & assemble

~10 min

Check the kit against your order, then fit the battery and the base before anything else.

  1. 1.1
    Check the kit
Scanner body, handle battery, charger, USB 3.1 cable, phone mount, GCP Collection Base, and the RTK module you ordered (Standard or Survey). Vehicle and drone kits ship separately if purchased.
  2. 1.2
    Fit the battery
Open the battery lock lever, slide the battery into the base along the guide slot until fully seated, then press the lever back to lock it. An unlocked battery can slip out.
  3. 1.3
    Fit the phone mount
Attach the phone mount to the handle so LixelGO is in view while you scan.
  4. 1.4
    Use the metal base
The GCP Collection Base doubles as the initialisation base. Starting every scan on it on flat ground protects initialisation accuracy and keeps the point-cloud thickness down.

Charge, power on, read the lights

~5 min

Charge first, then learn the indicator colours — they tell you when it is safe to move or cut power.

  1. 2.1
    Charge the battery
A few hours on the supplied 34 W charger. The battery LEDs show four levels (0–24, 25–49, 50–74, 75–99%). Have at least 70% before a firmware update.
  2. 2.2
    Power on
Press and hold the power button for 4 seconds. Slow-flashing blue for about 30 seconds while booting, then solid green = standby.
  3. 2.3
    Know the colours
Solid yellow = not activated yet. Solid blue = USB mode. Solid white = switching between standby and USB. Fast-flashing green = starting or stopping a scan (never cut power here). Alternating red and green = firmware upgrade. Solid red = serious fault, call us.
  4. 2.4
    Power off
In standby, hold the power button 4 seconds. Flashing white means data is being saved; wait for the light to go out before removing the battery.
⚠ Fast-flashing green means it is saving
After you stop a scan the light can flash fast for a while on a big scene. Pulling the battery during this state can corrupt or lose the file.

Activate & connect (LixelGO)

~10 min

The L2 Pro is activated, connected and managed through the LixelGO phone app.

  1. 3.1
    Install LixelGO
Android phone with at least 8 GB RAM, Bluetooth, hotspot and USB tethering, or a recent iPhone. Register with email or phone, then sign in.
  2. 3.2
    Add the device
Power the scanner on (solid green), tap Add Device. With firmware 3.2.1+ and LixelGO 1.3.0+ Quick Connect is the default; on iOS allow notifications, choose WLAN & Cellular, and allow Bluetooth when prompted. If the first connection fails, go back and tap Configure to trigger the permission dialog again.
  3. 3.3
    Activate
Tap GO, confirm device activation, and bind the scanner to your account. The indicator changes from solid yellow to solid green once activated.
  4. 3.4
    Request your LixelStudio codes
Three permanent LixelStudio licences come with the scanner. Request them through the activation page and keep the codes with your warranty card.
⚠ Each activation code is single-use
Do not share or re-enter codes. Firmware 3.1.0 or later is required for RTK and activation together; older firmware activates but will not run RTK.

Firmware — update before the first job

~15 min

New units often ship a version or two behind. Updates must go in sequence, so do this once now rather than on site.

  1. 4.1
    Check the sequence
Versions below 2.4.1 must step through 2.4.1 → 3.0.2 → 3.1.1 → 3.2.1 in order. Skipping a step fails silently. Ask us if you are unsure which version you have.
  2. 4.2
    Download the full package
From the XGRIDS L2 Pro download page (a full package is usually over 1 GB). Unzip, do not rename.
  3. 4.3
    Copy to the device
Switch the scanner to USB mode from LixelGO or the shortcut key (solid blue), connect with the supplied cable, and copy the firmware to the root of the device disk.
  4. 4.4
    Restart to upgrade
Power off and restart. The scanner enters upgrade mode by itself (alternating red and green). Do not touch it until it returns to solid green.
⚠ Did it upgrade?
If the light never alternated red and green, or the version did not change, the battery was probably under 70% or the package was renamed. Charge, re-copy and restart.

Your first handheld scan

~20 min

One clean loop around a courtyard or car park. Learn the rhythm before you scan for a client.

  1. 5.1
    Set the scan mode
In LixelGO: Mount type Handheld. If an RTK module is fitted, select the matching RTK type (Standard or Survey). Name the project — the folder will be saved as name_yyyy-mm-dd-time.
  2. 5.2
    Initialise on the base
Place the scanner on the metal base on flat ground, facing features. Tap the red record button and wait for the LiDAR to spin up and the app to report initialisation complete before you lift it.
  3. 5.3
    Walk the site
Steady pace, no fast rotation or shaking, about 0.5 m off surfaces, tilt around 15° forward. Open doors in advance and pause in doorways. Do not cover the heat-dissipation area — the unit will shut itself down if it overheats.
  4. 5.4
    Close the loop and stop
Return to your start point, stand still, then tap stop. Fast-flashing green = saving; solid green = done. There is no pause-and-resume: if you must stop, start a new project and stitch the two with Map Fusion in LixelStudio.
  5. 5.5
    Check the model
With firmware 3.2.1+ and LixelGO 1.3.0+ you can view the finished model in the app before you leave site.

Absolute coordinates — GCP or RTK

~20 min

Two ways to a georeferenced cloud: existing ground control points (indoors or out) or the RTK module (outdoors, good sky).

  1. 6.1
    Option A — control points
Fit the GCP Collection Base. Design your control points from the survey plan, then during the scan tap Control Point Mode → + → enter the point number → OK. Point names in LixelGO must match the control-point file you import into LixelStudio one-to-one.
  2. 6.2
Option B — fit the RTK module
Mount the Standard or Survey RTK on the base bracket. Module light: red = not connected, blue = connected but not fixed, green = fixed solution.
  3. 6.3
    RTK account
In LixelGO enter host, port, mountpoint, user and password as Custom RTK (standard NTRIP format). In Australia use AusCORS from Geoscience Australia or a commercial caster. Save the profile; the device logs in automatically next time. After changing the coordinate frame wait about 5 minutes before starting.
  4. 6.4
    Wait for Fixed
Only lift the scanner when the module light is green and LixelGO shows Fixed, not NONE, Float or Single. Keep any signal loss under 100 m of walking, scan a range of more than 10 m, and collect more than 100 valid RTK epochs or LixelStudio cannot apply the transformation.
  5. 6.5
    Coordinate frame
The module records WGS84, CGCS2000 or ITRF2008 with ellipsoidal height. Set your target frame (for Australia typically GDA2020 / MGA zone and AHD via your geoid) in LixelStudio at processing time.
  6. 6.6
Option C — PPK when RTK will not hold
No mobile coverage or a fix that keeps dropping? Set GNSS mode to PPK in the LixelGO advanced settings (RTK module still fitted). The scanner logs raw GNSS; in LixelStudio the GNSS module auto-selects PPK for that project — click PPK Settings, load your base-station or CORS observation and navigation files (RINEX 3.0 or later), then process. Same outputs, no live correction needed.
⚠ RTK is an outdoor tool
It will not fix indoors. For interiors and mixed sites use control points, or scan the outside with RTK and the inside with control points and fuse them.

OPTIONAL · VEHICLE MODEVehicle-mounted capture

~15 min

Corridors at traffic speed with the XGRIDS vehicle kit. Skip this stage if you did not buy the kit.

  1. 7.1
    Fit the kit
Main bracket with battery plate, quick-release bracket, two electric suction cups with the wireless monitoring module, V-mount battery (about 3 h versus 1.5 h on the handle battery). Mount on a flat, clean roof surface, fit the safety strap and check the suction cups before moving off.
  2. 7.2
    Set the mode
In LixelGO choose Mount type Vehicle-Mounted and the RTK type fitted. LixelStudio reads the mount type from the project automatically.
  3. 7.3
    Drive the route
Keep it between 15 and 30 km/h — we recommend 15–20 km/h, and 40 km/h is the absolute maximum. Slower is closer to handheld quality. Keep the RTK fixed; plan the route to avoid long signal gaps under bridges or in canyons.
  4. 7.4
    Know the limits
Vehicle mode gives horizontal 3 cm and vertical 5 cm absolute, 2 cm relative, 1 cm thickness — but no 3DGS, no point-cloud enhancement and no Map Fusion. Plan a separate handheld pass for photoreal deliverables.

OPTIONAL · DRONE MODE (DJI M300 / M350)Drone-mounted capture

~20 min

Aerial capture on a DJI M300 or M350 with the XGRIDS bracket. Skip this stage if you do not fly.

  1. 8.1
    Install the bracket
Reuse the gimbal screw holes on the belly of the M300/M350 with M3×8 screws; the marked arrow must point toward the gimbal adapter ring. Fit the XGRIDS gimbal adapter ring, then mount the L2 Pro and toggle the safety button — if it is not toggled the scanner can fall in flight. Secure the Type-C cable or RTK will drop mid-flight.
  2. 8.2
    Power and start
The L2 Pro draws power from the aircraft. Update LixelGO to 1.2.0 or later, set Mount type Drone and RTK type Aerial, match the ellipsoid to the controller (WGS84 or CGCS2000), and start the scan in LixelGO before take-off — otherwise mount, RTK and coordinate information is not written to the project.
  3. 8.3
    Fly the plan
Fixed-speed route on the DJI controller: 3 m/s at 30 m recommended (max 5 m/s at 30 m; no distance limit at 50 m). Pushing to 50 m and 5–7 m/s costs about 5–10 cm. Stop the scan after landing, then power off normally.
  4. 8.4
    Know the limits
No live view in drone mode — drift only shows after processing. No Map Fusion for drone data (manual and ICP registration works with about 50% feature-rich overlap). Effective range is closer to 120 m than the raw 300 m.
  5. 8.5
    Process
LixelStudio 3.3 or later recognises the mount type and ellipsoid from the project; the coordinate system defaults to CGCS2000, so set yours before processing. Fuse the flight with a ground scan in LCC for aerial–ground 3DGS.
⚠ Only M300 / M350 are covered by the manual
Ask us before planning a job on any other airframe. CASA rules for your operation are your responsibility as the operator.

Transfer & process

~20 min

USB mode, then LixelStudio for the point cloud and LCC for the 3DGS scene.

  1. 9.1
    Enter USB mode
In standby, switch to USB mode from LixelGO or the shortcut key (solid blue) and connect with the supplied USB 3.1 cable — other cables can be slow or only work one way round. USB mode switches off after a restart; turn it off manually if you want to keep scanning.
  2. 9.2
    Copy the project
Copy the whole project folder (name_yyyy-mm-dd-time). Inside: project_data, control_points.csv (if you collected control points), gnss.csv (if RTK), and photos taken at each control point.
  3. 9.3
    Activate LixelStudio
Settings → Activation → License Activation, enter one of your codes. Minimum PC: Windows 10/11, i7 11th gen, RTX 3060, 64 GB RAM, 1 TB.
  4. 9.4
    Process the point cloud
New Project → select the project folder. LixelStudio reads the mount type. Enable Dynamic Object Removal and Filtering Enhancement, set the coordinate frame (GDA2020 / control-point file), then process. Trim noise with the clipping box and export .las, .e57, .rcp or a mesh.
  5. 9.5
    Make the 3DGS scene
Open the same project in LCC Studio for the photoreal scene (handheld data only). Export .lcc/.lcc2 for the viewer, or 3D Tiles for GIS. Multiple handheld scans stitch with Map Fusion.
  6. 9.6
    Or send it to us
Short on workstation time? Upload the project to the AECT processing service and get the point cloud, mesh, floor plan or 3DGS scene back, processed in Queensland.

Battery care, storage & support

~5 min

Five minutes here protects your warranty and your next job.

  1. 10.1
    Recharge after use
Recharge the handle battery promptly after a day on site; do not leave it depleted. A critically low battery must be recharged within days or it can be damaged.
  2. 10.2
    Store it properly
Back in the case in the foam layout: RTK modules, phone mount, battery, cable, body, GCP base each have a slot. Keep within −20 °C to 50 °C and out of direct sun in the car.
  3. 10.3
    Keep the PC clean
If project folders turn into shortcuts on the USB drive, a USB worm on the PC hid them: run attrib -s -h -r /s /d *.* in the drive root, delete the .lnk files, copy your data out, format the scanner disk from the app and scan the PC.

FAQ

Common questions

What accuracy should I expect?

Real time: 3 cm absolute (RTK gaps under 100 m) and 2 cm relative. Post-processed: 3 cm absolute, 1 cm relative, 2 cm repeatability, 0.5 cm plane thickness within 10 m of the path.

Which variant do I have and what range does it really give?

16-line/120 m, 32-line/120 m or 32-line/300 m (320k or 640k points per second). The 300 m figure is raw sensor range; distant points are sparse and filtered, so in drone mode the useful range is closer to 120 m.

Can I pause a scan and resume?

No. Stop, start a new project, and stitch the two in LixelStudio with Map Fusion (handheld data only).

RTK or PPK?

RTK when you can hold a fixed NTRIP solution on site. PPK when coverage is poor: set GNSS mode to PPK, scan, then in LixelStudio load the base-station or CORS RINEX (3.0+) observation and navigation files under PPK Settings and process. Both modes need the RTK module fitted and the matching RTK type selected.

Which drones can carry it?

DJI M300 and M350 with the XGRIDS bracket and gimbal adapter ring. Nothing else is covered by the manual.

How fast can I drive in vehicle mode?

15–30 km/h, with 15–20 km/h recommended for the best registration; 40 km/h is the maximum. Vehicle mode does not produce 3DGS, point-cloud enhancement or Map Fusion.

What files come off the scanner?

.las point clouds and .jpg panoramas, with control_points.csv and gnss.csv when used. LixelStudio exports .e57, .ply, .obj, .osgb, .dxf and .rcp; LCC Studio produces .lcc / .lcc2 / .ply / .usd / 3D Tiles.

Does remote onboarding come with the scanner?

Yes. Every unit sold by AECT includes a remote onboarding session — book it below. On-site training on your own site is available as a Tier 2 service.
