Australia’s first Lixel L3, unboxed and scanned
The XGRIDS Lixel L3 is a handheld SLAM LiDAR scanner launched on 15 September 2026 that delivers 5 mm relative and 2 cm absolute accuracy with a built-in survey-grade RTK receiver, three 1/1.3-inch 4K HDR cameras and on-device processing, producing a true-colour point cloud, a photorealistic 3D Gaussian Splatting scene and a mesh from a single walk. In Australia the Lixel L3 is sold, demonstrated and supported by AECT Solutions, the XGRIDS National Distributor, with pre-orders open, October 2026 delivery and pricing on enquiry.
The first Australian unit, one of nine first-batch L3s worldwide, arrived at AECT on 19 September 2026. In the video: what ships in the Standard Package, first power-on, and a first scan processed and georeferenced on the device itself — no laptop, no upload — then reviewed on the 4.3-inch screen before packing up.

Accuracy. Vision. Integration.
The three things XGRIDS built the L3 around.
Accuracy
5 mm relative accuracy, validated: seven units, twenty independent scans of a 500 m² building with corridors and loop closures, 1,524 distances checked against a total station, no GCPs — 4.2 mm at P68. 2 cm absolute with the built-in RTK, 5 cm even in urban canyons, 0.005° levelness.
Vision
Three 50 MP, 1/1.3-inch sensors with 4K HDR. True colour that holds up in shadow and glare, feeding photoreal 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes as well as the point cloud.
Integration
RTK, display and processing are inside the unit. Control points from the screen, real-time coordinate conversion, loop closure on device — and open Creator Data for your own pipelines.
Three things the L2 Pro could not do
5 mm relative accuracy, validated on 7 units and 1,524 measurements
XGRIDS published the full method: 7 production L3 units, 20 independent scan sets by 5 operators, a ~507 m² office floor with two 39 m corridors, separate rooms and a stairwell, 13 targets measured with a Leica TS60 total station (1.5 mm after adjustment), no ground control points, standard LixelStudio processing. Point-pair distances from 5.4 m to 44.2 m — more than half over 20 m, the range where SLAM drift shows.
Relative-accuracy validation compares distances between known targets in the point cloud against total-station reference values — it needs no GCPs, is unaffected by coordinate-system registration error and matches how the industry evaluates mobile scanners. Result: P68 4.2 mm, better than the specified 5 mm @ 1σ.
Built for the sites that break other scanners
Where satellite signal is blocked or reflected, the L3 keeps refining trajectory and position so large captures stay continuous — no misalignment, no layered floors, absolute accuracy of about 5 cm.
Tunnels, utility corridors, plant rooms and long straight interiors: the low-feature mode keeps the point cloud continuous where thin texture and repeating structure normally accumulate error.
Reflective water interferes with the spatial solution; the L3 keeps solving so bridge structures, shorelines and surrounding geometry come through coherently — fewer gaps, fewer return visits.
Real-time Multi-SLAM with vision-aided localisation and levelling optimisation keeps large scenes level and continuous while you walk; AI filtering removes people, vehicles and environmental noise as you scan, so the exported cloud needs less cleanup and reaches measurement, modelling and delivery sooner.
- Support rig — long field days feel easier; the rig carries the weight
- Integrated 4.3-inch on-screen system — full capture status, preview and measurement on one display
- Standard RTK pole compatibility — mounts to the survey poles you already own
- Control-point collection — mark points directly from the pole
- Quick-swap batteries — change packs in seconds for continuous capture
- LixelStudio — control-point-free map fusion by region selection, automatic face and number-plate blurring, Creator Data and open SDKs/plugins (Revit, Unreal Engine, Unity, ArcGIS)

XGRIDS Lixel L3 — questions people ask
What does the Lixel L3’s 5 mm relative accuracy actually mean?
It is a verified, post-processed figure, not a datasheet promise. XGRIDS tested 7 production L3 units (four 16-channel, three 32-channel) across 20 independent scan sets on a ~507 m² office floor with long corridors, separate rooms and a stairwell — no ground control points. Distances between 13 high-reflectivity targets were compared with a Leica TS60 total station reference (1.5 mm after adjustment): 1,524 point pairs from 5.4 m to 44.2 m. Result: P68 (≈1σ) 4.2 mm, median 3.0 mm, P85 6.4 mm, P97 9.9 mm. The full method is in the accuracy validation white paper, downloadable from this page.
Should I choose the Lixel L3 or the Lixel K2?
Choose the L3 for projects that demand high accuracy, large-area capture and stability in complex environments: 5 mm relative and 2 cm absolute accuracy, true-colour HDR imaging, better levelling and real-time point-cloud quality — surveying, architecture, industrial facilities, tunnels and corridors. Choose the K2 when portability and speed matter most: under 1 kg, quick to learn, point cloud, mesh and 3DGS from one pass — small-to-medium surveys, real estate, film and heritage. AECT hires the K2 and demonstrates the L3 on the national roadshow so you can compare on your own site.
Is Jacob bringing the Lixel L3 to my state?
Yes. AECT founder Jacob Lee is taking the first Australian Lixel L3 on a national roadshow: Sydney 28 September to 3 October 2026 (confirmed), Melbourne 12 to 14 October (to be confirmed), then Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra and Darwin scheduled by registration, with regional stops where there is demand. Dates and venues are released to registered contacts first — register for your state on this page.
What is the XGRIDS Lixel L3?
The Lixel L3 is XGRIDS’ new flagship handheld SLAM LiDAR scanner, launched globally at INTERGEO on 15 September 2026. It combines high-accuracy LiDAR, a three-camera 4K HDR true-colour vision system (three 1/1.3-inch sensors), an integrated RTK module and a 4.3-inch on-device display. One scan produces a true-colour point cloud, a photoreal 3D Gaussian Splatting scene and a mesh. In Australia it is sold and supported by AECT Solutions, XGRIDS’ National Distributor.
How accurate is the Lixel L3?
5 mm relative accuracy (1-sigma, post-processed, in XGRIDS’ 500 m² test environment), 2 cm absolute accuracy with RTK after post-processing, 2.5 cm absolute in real time, 5 mm point-cloud thickness, and 0.005° levelness with RTK fusion.
What is the difference between the Lixel L3 and the L2 Pro?
The L3 improves relative accuracy from 1 cm to 5 mm and absolute accuracy from 3 cm to 2 cm, builds the RTK into the unit, adds a 4.3-inch display and on-device processing, and upgrades the cameras from 2 × 48 MP to 3 × 50 MP with 4K HDR. The L2 Pro remains XGRIDS’ long-range and mount-anything line: it is the only model with a 300 m LiDAR option and the vehicle and DJI M300/M350 mounting kits. The L2 Pro continues to be supported and sold — the two serve different jobs.
Does the L3 have built-in RTK?
Yes. The RTK module is integrated, with real-time WGS84 / CGCS2000 conversion on the device. Control points are captured with the tip at the handle base, triggered from the screen or power button, and a standard RTK survey pole can be used — no proprietary pole required.
Can the L3 produce 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes?
Yes. The same scan delivers a survey-grade point cloud and a photoreal 3DGS scene through LCC (Lixel CyberColor), plus a mesh. The HDR cameras are designed for exactly this: consistent true colour for photoreal scenes that flow into Unreal Engine, NVIDIA Isaac Sim and web viewers.
When is the Lixel L3 available in Australia, and what does it cost?
AECT Solutions is taking Australian pre-orders from 15 September 2026: a $2,000 deposit reserves a first-shipment unit, with October 2026 delivery, 4–5 weeks from the global launch date. Two models — 16-channel and 32-channel, both 120 m — each with LixelStudio (3 permanent licences), LCC Basic, onboarding and training included. Pricing is not published online: AECT quotes your configuration after a short consultation, so register on this page or call us.
Can I demo the Lixel L3 before buying? Is it available for hire?
You can demo it. The first Lixel L3 in Australia — one of nine first-batch units worldwide — arrived at AECT on 19 September 2026 (the unboxing and first scan are on this page), and it is now on a national roadshow through every state and territory with regional stops where there is demand. You can also book a private on-site demo. The L3 is not in the AECT hire fleet for now; the Lixel K2, L2 Pro and PortalCam are available to hire.
Does the L3 replace the L2 Pro?
No. XGRIDS positions the L3 as the precision, integration-focused handheld and the L2 Pro as the long-range and mounted-capture line. For corridors, large sites, the 300 m range option and vehicle or drone mounting, the L2 Pro remains the right tool.
Can L3 data be processed without the cloud?
Yes. Reconstruction and control-point-free map fusion can run in the cloud or entirely locally on your own network. AECT also processes data onshore in Australia — nothing leaves the country unless you choose to publish it.
What is in the box with the Lixel L3?
The XGRIDS Standard Package: the Lixel L3 scanner (16- or 32-channel, 120 m), two batteries, charger, USB Type-C cable, GCP collection plate, lens and LiDAR protective covers, 30 reflective targets, and the protective case with backpack straps, plus the quick start guide, warranty card and certificate of conformity. Every Australian unit from AECT adds three permanent LixelStudio licences, LCC Basic, remote onboarding and training. The first Australian unit shipped with a 3-bay charging hub and a 45 W USB-C adaptor as the charger.
Is the Lixel L3 survey-grade?
For relative geometry the Lixel L3’s 5 mm figure is survey-grade for most as-built, verification and Scan-to-BIM work; absolute accuracy of 2 cm comes from the built-in RTK and your control network. AECT validates both with you on delivery against your own control.
Does the Lixel L3 work for Scan-to-BIM?
Yes. The Lixel L3’s 5 mm relative accuracy and control-point workflow feed Scan-to-BIM in Revit through LCC, with point-cloud exports in .las, .rcp and .e57 and mesh exports in .obj and .osgb.
Where can I watch the Lixel L3 unboxing and first scan?
On this page and on the AECT blog: Australia’s first Lixel L3 was unboxed and scanned at the AECT office on 22 September 2026, with the point cloud processed and georeferenced on the device itself. The three-minute video shows what ships in the Standard Package, first power-on, the first scan and the on-device review.
